ATEME Opens New Office in Tokyo

ATEME, an acknowledged leader in MPEG-4/H.264 video compression solutions, today announced that it has opened a new office in Tokyo, Japan, further increasing its presence in this market. The new office will join its recently expanded operations in Leeds (UK), Hangzhou (China), Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Montreal, and its company headquarters in Bièvres near Paris, France.

ATEME has been providing MPEG-4/H.264 video encoding solutions to Japanese broadcasters and operators since 2005. In 2007, ATEME’s encoding technology was selected for use in the first public Ultra HD demonstration with AVC (H.264) bandwidth efficient encoding by NHK Laboratories in Tokyo. Throughout 2008 ATEME has been making its products ARIB (a Japanese broadcasting standard) compliant, allowing the company to play an active role in the deployment of acTVila, a nationwide Video On Demand service.

Yasushi Kato, ATEME JAPON Sales Director since 2005, will lead the new office, which is located in the Shibuya district also known as Bit Valley. He will be joined by Atsushi Ishiguro, who will be heading up the local professional services team. Ishiguro San brings to ATEME a wealth of encoding technology expertise through his previous role at Envivio.
