High fidelity video compression for broadcast
and broadband.

Interview with Michael Antonovich, Senior Vice President and General Manager for AmericasIBC 2013, a long awaited and prepared show, has just ended. It stood out as a showcase for our presales, sales and marketing teams but not only that. We met existing and future customers and had the opportunity to see our partners coming from around the world. Visitors who attended our booth at IBC this year got to see our amazing demo of UHDTV 4K, including stunning pictures of the new format, and HEVC compression for a variety of screens. Executives and engineers were available to provide unique insights into the first live HEVC end-to-end trial and to explain our technology to visitors.

Questions about UHDTV 4K and HEVC were flooding in but the answer on how to reduce the usage of the bandwidth without compromise on the video quality was shown and proven on our booth. Visitors were enthusiastic to see the low bandwidth HEVC applications on the web, tablets and PC’s. Other enhancements to ATEME’s portfolio were ready to meet customer’s needs. For example Gen5 firmware – the latest compression engine for our Kyrion CM5000 encoder – produces higher video quality at lower bandwidth and lower latency; peanut butter and chocolate as Mike Antonovich, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Americas puts it in the video above.

It wouldn’t be pretentious if we say it was our best IBC ever !

Interview in Italian

Maurizio Corazzini ATEME Sales Regional Manager At the Amsterdam IBC 2013 show, Maurizio Corazzini, ATEME’s Sales Regional Manager, presented the company’s latest portfolio to MilleCanali, a publication of reference for the Italian broadcast industry. Corazzini focused on two products lines: Kyrion, dedicated to contribution/distribution, and TITAN designed to transcoding for multi-screen delivery of linear channels (TV, mobile and web). He focused on the company’s own compression technology, dedicated development and research teams, ATEME’s leading position and its latest state of the art in the advanced video compression solutions.

Dialog Extends Its HD Channel Offerings and Prepares for HEVC

RAI AMSTERDAM (International Broadcasting Convention, Hall One, Stand 1.D71), Sept. 16, 2013ATEME,a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, today announced that Dialog Poland chose ATEME’s TITAN Live, at the beginning of 2013, to extend its HD channel offerings and incorporate HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) capabilities into its Head End technology.

KEY FACTS:
Dialog extends IPTV Head-End in full HD – Using TITAN Live, Dialog is now able to offer IPTV in full HD resolution at 7 Mbs with no compromise on video quality. The flexibility and scalability of the TITAN software transcoding platform allowed Dialog to increase its initial requirement of 18 HD channels to 35. This increase was accomplished in increments of a few channels over the course of this year, on very short notice every time and withut any architecture change.
TITAN Live Transcoder – A real-time multi-channel/format IP-based transcoder for multi-screen delivery of linear channels (TV, mobile, and web) through managed and unmanaged networks.
Supports all use cases for the ingest and processing of linear channels, including IP/compressed and SDI/uncompressed video inputs that can be combined in the same chassis. This feature provides multi-screen delivery in any format IN and any format OUT, providing a next generation TV Head-End delivery stream to any screen.
Now includes support of HEVC output for real-time transcoding up to HD resolution.

ATEME Integrates Zixi into Kyrion Encoder/Decoders to Provide Best-of-Breed Contribution Over the Internet Solution

RAI AMSTERDAM (International Broadcasting Convention, Hall One, Stand 1.D71), Sept. 14, 2013 – ATEME, a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, and Zixi LLC today announced the integration of Zixi’s streaming technology into ATEME’s Kyrion encoders and decoders to deliver enhanced quality of service over the “Open Internet.”

KEY FACTS:
•Technical game changer for premium content contribution: The collaboration between ATEME and Zixi provides not only reliable video transmissions over the “Open Internet”, but also dynamically manages the video bitrate control based upon network conditions. It is the first contribution solution on the market that combines these complex features into a single device.
•ATEME products deliver highest quality video compression: ATEME’s Kyrion encoder/decoders are utilized by broadcasters and service providers for live transmission of premium video content over managed fiber and satellite networks.
•Open Internet challenges solved: Content producers are looking toward the “Open Internet,” an unmanaged network, as a way to increase their reach while keeping operational costs to a minimum. The “Open Internet” has historically not been a reliable channel for high quality video transmission and is affected by unpredictable jitter and packet losses. Zixi has developed a technology to overcome these difficulties.
•Collaboration combines best-in-class video processing with advanced streaming technologies: Through this partnership, ATEME has integrated Zixi into its high performance encoder/decoders, the Kyrion CM5000 and Kyrion DR8400, delivering an all-in-one bandwidth-intelligent solution for contribution over the “Open Internet.” The integrated product line will be available in Q4 of 2013.

Dennis Albano, CEO, Zixi, said:

“We are very pleased to be part of ATEME’s updated family of high-performance contribution encoders. This partnership brings together two providers known for delivering the absolute highest possible video quality in their products. This integration allows content producers to use the Internet to deliver video encoded by ATEME’s Kyrion products, using any profile without loss of quality and without the headaches, and cost, of fiber and satellite connections. Working together, ATEME and Zixi have proven that Internet video transport is not limited to second-tier content but can – and should – be used for first-class video content delivery.”

Rémi Beaudouin, director of product marketing, ATEME, said:

“We are very excited to be able to announce this working collaboration with Zixi and the results of our partnership. We believe this joint solution will benefit many of our customers who are looking to utilize the Internet and unmanaged IP networks to transport their content without having to compromise on video quality.”

About Zixi
Zixi LLC is revolutionizing ingest, transport and delivery of studio-quality video on the Internet. By enabling broadcasters, streaming media companies, enterprises and video equipment manufacturers to use unmanaged IP networks to transport their content, Zixi redefines the cost of acquiring and distributing video. Zixi is privately held and based in Waltham, MA.

watch now

A face to face follow up interview with Rémi BEAUDOUIN, ATEME Director of Product Marketing:

Rémi BEAUDOUIN, ATEME Director of Product MarketingBièvres, September 09 2013

Dorota Bouskela: Last time we met, ATEME was fully involved in the preparation of IBC. We are getting closer to this important event and I heard you intend to have a compelling presentation on the booth. Could you give us more details?

Rémi Beaudouin: Yes, as explained in July, we will show our new products and solutions for Contribution, Video Head End Distribution and Multi-Screen VOD. One major vantage point of this IBC is the productization of the HEVC technology. TITAN product lines will leverage first from the bandwidth savings of the new codec. Right from September, TITAN File will be able to process 4K movie in HEVC with a stunning video quality compared to H.264. With the forthcoming addition of HEVC in TITAN live encoder, we will be able to provide our customers with the best bandwidth efficiency for their new services roll-out.

DB: I know you wanted to talk about a new technology for video multiplex operators. What can you tell us about it?

RB: This technology is called the Seamless Channel Insertion™ (SCI). Our Kyrion CM5000 encoder supports it. It will help contribution professionals plan and manage a feed-multiplex or a turn-around feed bouquet allowing operators to change video bitrate on the fly with no service interruption.

DB: What about the technology corner? Anything new around 4K?

RB: People stopping by our booth will have the opportunity to appreciate our latest status UHDTV 4K video quality, with outstanding pictures of the new format. We will be demonstrating some compelling comparisons of Ultra HD video encoded in H.264 and HEVC.
