A few words about InterBEE 2013

Another great event came to an end – InterBEE 2013.
Two of our colleagues, WI Eunsook and KAWABE Toshiaki participated in the show. They presented our latest technology and answered a great amount of customers’ questions about 4K and HEVC.

More than 10 000 visitors visited the show everyday – Eunsook said and it was a great opportunity and a big challenge to present ATEMEs products and solutions to Japanese customers.
We were delighted to see that all visitors were impressed by our video quality in HEVC and we noted that our TITAN products were very attractive to Japanese market, thanks to their flexibility and ease of use for tablets and mobile devices.
We are proud to say that we came away with wonderful business and partnerships opportunities, and I do feel that we have a good opportunity for business in Japan – added Toshiaki .

In two weeks, Inter BEE 2013 will take place, the largest audio, video and communications exhibition in Japan. Many professionals from the broadcast industry, equipment manufacturers and content providers will participate, among them ATEME.
Japanese visitors will have the opportunity to visit our booth and see the latest UHDTV/4K P60 on a Toshiba TV and the HEVC demo on tablets. Two of our team members will be available to network with customers during the event: Toshiaki Kawabe, Business Development Manager in Japan and Eunsook Wi, APAC Regional Manager.

«We are delighted to be able to showcase our latest technology. We believe our latest HEVC development will be the key to deliver our enhanced viewing experience, particularly for VOD content providers planning to launch 4K-UHDTV service.» says Emmanuel BOUREAU, ATEME VP Sales.

Michel ARTIERES, founder, President and CEO of ATEME had the honor of being awarded the IE Club “Trophées de l’International du Numérique. He received the prize from Nicole Bricq, the French Minister of Foreign Trade. Through that trophy, ATEME has been rewarded for the best international performance among French SMEs in the digital economy.

Dorota Bouskela: What motivated ATEME’s participation in the “Trophées de l’International du Numérique” ?

Michel Artières: The IE-Club is the ideal meeting place for innovative SMEs willing to make contacts with other major players in cutting edge fields: investors, major groups, public organizations and research centers. Through this event, IE-Club wishes to promote innovative companies which demonstrate an ambitious international strategy, as they will take a significant part in the development of tomorrow’s economy. We felt that ATEME had a nice story to tell from this perspective, so it was natural for us to compete for the trophy.

DB: Why do you think ATEME won?

MA: Participation in the competition is open to all French innovative start-ups and SMEs which have implemented an exemplary strategy in international operations. The jury classifies applicants according to three criteria: innovation, international strategy and teams. For each of these criteria, ATEME has a great story and noticeable statistics:
In terms of innovation, the fact is that we are continuingly investing in R&D and our brand name is synonymous with encoding quality, as stated by Frost and Sullivan in 2012. More than 40 % of our total staff are actually in R&D!
When it comes to the international market, the fact is that our sales out of France have grown again this year to an impressive 92% of our total sales. The jury appreciated ATEME’s sustained growth in all regions (including USA, Latin America, and Asia), as well as effective sales in more than 60 countries this year.
Finally, the seasoned international management team, as well as the 23 nationalities represented in ATEME staff, definitely made it for the third criteria.

DB: In what countries does ATEME have operations? Do you intend to expand to new countries in the near future?

MA: We have a physical presence in 7 countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and we are just about to open an office in Singapore.

DB: What is ATEME’s innovation, originality and added value in the digital field?

MA: ATEME is one of the very few players in its market which relies on its own home grown video compression technology. Large and sustained investments in research (we own almost 20 patents) allow us to be ahead of the race in periods of disruption (like we are with the new HEVC standard today) and constantly offerour customers future proof products with superior compression efficiency. Therefore, we help our clients improve the quality of their services (video quality, more subscribers eligible to the HD,…) or launch new services (HD for mobiles, catch up TV, …). Obviously this helps them protect or even increase their ARPU.

DB: Would you recommend other companies to participate in IE Club ?

MA: Yes of course, it will give them more exposure, all the more so as the pitch and award ceremony are hosted byUbifrance during the 2 days of “International Conference of the Digital Economy” . The presence of the Minister for Foreign Trade speaks to the visibility and credibility of this event.

Over the last few months, satellite operators, industry broadcasters and technology companies have all been talking about the benefits of the Ultra HDTV.
Our partner, Eutelsat keeps moving forward with the launch of its new channel with HEVC encoding which is multiplexed with the existing Quad HD signal in the same EUTELSAT 10A transponder.
This new Ultra HD HEVC channel, set up in partnership with ATEME, will be operating at 30 frames per second and broadcasting Ultra HD content from Fox International Channels and the National Geographic Channel among others.
Eutelsat also launched an additional Quad HD channel dedicated to the Samsung TV set equipped with satellite reception. Fashion TV Ultra HD content will be shown to the Majestic hotel during the MIPTV in Cannes via this channel.
We are proud of our contribution to this launch as we helped show that the full satellite delivery chain is able to feed Ultra HD television channels, bringing viewers around the world exciting viewing experience.

In August, on this blog we reported that Cable & Satellite International, a technology publication targeting the global video market, covering cable, satellite, IPTV, mobile and terrestrial broadcast platforms, shortlisted ATEME’s Kyrion CM5000 for the CSI awards 2013.
Today, we are very pleased to announce that ATEME’s Kyrion CM5000 won a CSI award in the best satellite contribution/distribution/transmission solution category.

Some of the unique features certainly captured the attention of the CSI jury :
• Based on ATEME ‘s unique FPGA design, the Kyrion CM5000 is fully upgradeable and future proof.
• It supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC up to 4:2:2 10-bit with unrivaled video quality and reliability.
• With its just released Gen5 firmware, the CM5000 offers broadcasters and service operators perfect video quality at very low delay for applications such as full duplex interviews or sports coverage.
