Advances in technology enables new services such as HD, VOD, catch-up TV, mobile streaming and Ultra HD. ATEME’s innovations provide producers and broadcasters with some of the most advanced video compression technologies on the market, providing unmatched video quality while preserving their bandwidth.
By joining ATEME, you will be a part of a dynamic company listed on the stock exchange since 2014 with the fastest growth in the video market. Our employees have the opportunity to evolve to other functions (such as marketing, project management, pre-sales, business development etc.).
ATEME generates more than 90% of its turnover abroad in more than 60 countries thank to employees of 30 different nationalities. We facilitate mobility in France (Velizy and Rennes) and internationally, especially in our offices in Sao Paolo, Denver and Singapore. As part of its very strong growth, ATEME is looking for Software Developer Interns with a high possibility of recruitment with a permanent contract (CDI).
About the position :
The COVID-19 crisis once more showed how dependent are our societies on digital video broadcast. An industry which is itself highly restricted by the bandwidth for distribution of a tremendous amount of video over different transportation means (Terrestrial, Satellite, Internet, mobile). This increase in video consumption leads to a massive usage of computational resources in datacenters.
From a delivery perspective, the headend is in charge of TV services preparation, including video processing, encoding and packaging. Depending on the targeted delivery medium, a signaling and discovery mechanism should be implemented in order for the devices to access the services. Currently, each medium has its own signaling and discovery mechanisms, which makes universal services deployment complicated.
To address that issue, the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) consortium developed the DVB-I specification, enabling services to be described in a universal way. Services are registered in the Central Service Registry (CSR) which centralize all existing services and their different variations. Any device can then discover services from this authority and access them according to the available delivery methods.
Such approach requires broadcasters and services provider to orchestrate multiple headend at the same time, and to generate services list accordingly, possibly in a dynamic way. The goal of the internship is to develop a cloud-based DVB-I orchestrator communicating and managing a cluster of ATEME headends deployed in the cloud.
This internship will consist of following phases:
- Study of the DVB-I specification, identification of key-features.
- Development of a cloud-based orchestrator, managing multiple ATEME headends in the cloud.
- Testing and validation of the solution.
- In all above phases, candidate will constantly interact with his/her colleagues to benefit from their knowledge and experience. Noteworthy of precising that, based on the profile of candidate, the internship orientation might be adjusted.
About the candidate :
- Last-year student of engineering school program or master’s in computer science or electrical engineering.
- Excellent C/C++ programming skills.
- Excellent understanding of cloud architecture and infrastructure (container, Kubernetes, …).
- Being familiar with digital TV is a plus.
- Fluent in English.
