TV Globo Affiliate, RPC TV, Deploys HD Video Head End to Extend Coverage in the Brazilian State of Paraná

Paris – Oct. 1, 2013 – ATEME, a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, today announced that Brazilian independent network affiliate of TV Globo, Rede Paranaense de Comunicações (RPC TV), has deployed their HD Video Head End system using ATEME’s Kyrion product line. This deployment allows RPC TV to not only distribute its channels over satellite to all of its affiliate stations in the state of Paraná, but also to extend coverage to remote regions left out by its terrestrial coverage.

KEY FACTS:
First HD satellite system deployment: This is the first deployment of a HD satellite system by RPC TV. Through this technology, it is able to distribute its channel over satellite to its network of terrestrial broadcasting towers. This system also providing the solution for other project inside the company to increase their coverage.
ATEME chosen for superior quality, standardization and engineering expertise: The Kyrion encoders, decoders and multiplexers are installed in the city of Curitiba, and provide a fully redundant uplink system designed by the engineering team. RPC TV selected the ATEME equipment for its superior video quality and compliance to the Brazilian standard ISDB-T, the technical standard for digital television broadcast used in Brazil, across South America and in other parts of the world.
Quality programming for 10 million viewers: Founded in 1960, RPC TV, a network of eight stations, is part of communication group GRPCOM and is one of the largest independent affiliate of TV Globo, the leading broadcaster in Brazil. The broadcaster offers quality programming of national and local content to more than 10 million viewers.
