The Kyrion CM5000 Encoder With Built in Satellite Modulation May Now Be Used in Brazil

PARIS, Nov. 26, 2013 – ATEME, a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, announced today that ANATEL, the National Telecommunication Agency of Brazil, has certified the Kyrion CM5000™ for commercial transmissions. DSNG (Digital Satellite News Gathering) professionals may now use this multi-awarded contribution encoder with built-in DVB-S/S2 modulation to save costs and space in their mobile units.

KEY FACTS:
ANATEL is a federal agency of the Brazilian government that regulates telecommunications nationwide. Any equipment used to broadcast an RF signal in Brazil requires prior certification by ANATEL.
ANATEL has certified ATEME’s Kyrion CM5000 encoder in configurations that include satellite modulation. This certification will allow all DSNG integrators and operators in the region to equip their vehicles and fly away kits with the state-of-the-art in video encoding.
The Kyrion CM5000 saves space in uplink vehicles and fly-aways compared to using external modulators. In addition, its built-in confidence monitor effectively removes the need for a separate monitor in the truck. The modulator of the CM5000 allows operators to reduce “roll-off factors”. This mode of satellite modulation, also known as “smaller guard intervals” allows up-linkers to maximize the effective bandwidth of satellite transponders.
Upcoming sporting events in Brazil create a very dynamic market for DSNG professionals. With next year’s soccer world cup in sight and the summer Olympic Games two years later, the need for SNG services in Brazil has dramatically increased, and will likely attract overseas operators and vehicles, for which ANATEL certification will also be required.

“The Brazilian market is of utmost importance to ATEME, and the certification of our Kyrion encoders by ANATEL is another token of our commitment to support our international customer base throughout the upcoming sporting events. Additionally, the CM5000 meets all operational expectations for satellite professionals and we are confident that our local partners will take advantage of this certification to upgrade or expand their fleet.”
