PARIS, MIAMI, SINGAPORE, APRIL 26, 2017 – ATEME today announced that Totalplay, triple play operator affiliate of Mexican multimedia conglomerate Grupo Salinas, has selected ATEME’s TITAN virtual encoding solution for its converged headend.

TITAN’s proven ability to operate in server, blade platform and virtual environments with the same source code provides Totalplay with the flexibility needed to scale up or down without service disruption. Totalplay now benefits from hardware abstraction, operational simplicity, and service elasticity, which in turn lowers OPEX costs. On top of all of these OPEX savings there are also some pure CAPEX savings, as fewer different boxes and spares need to be maintained.

TITAN is a virtualized software-based encoder-transcoder designed for Cable, DTH, DTT and OTT. As a pure-software encoder, it does not make any assumption on the underlying hardware and can run in any environment, removing infrastructure constraints. By using Intel® VCA cards, ATEME is able to increase channel density by more than 10X over platforms without Intel graphics capabilities, while maintaining boundless quality. The result is a significant reduction in total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) per transcode channel.

“ATEME’s virtual solution implements the functions of an encoder in software, and runs on a virtual machine in datacenters. This gives operators the ability to define logical systems by functionality, and not just by dedicated appliance. A virtualized environment will indeed have a much smaller physical footprint than one using dedicated appliances, which significantly reduces operators’ CAPEX and OPEX”, said Robert Oaxaca, Country Manager for Mexico at ATEME. “By providing solutions, guidance and support, ATEME now becomes a true enabler of video datacenters for operators who aim to modernize their video workflow.”
