High fidelity video compression for broadcast
and broadband.

with a host of new features aimed at IPTV, Contribution, and DTV applications

ATEME SA, a world leader in MPEG-4/H.264 video compression technology, today announced the release of its third generation (Gen3) MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 core engine.

ATEME Gen3 H.264 codec, for the Kyrion series of real-time video encoders, is based on a number of ATEME patent-pending innovations enabling bandwidth efficiency gains and video quality enhancements over the previous generation of H.264 codecs.

DTV broadcasters can now offer pristine HD quality services at constant bit rates and with dense transponder capacities. IPTV operators are able to extend their customer reach for HD services thanks to bandwidth efficiency gains.

To address the growing contribution market, ATEME Gen3 H.264 codec includes support for the 4:2:2 chroma subsampling profile at higher bit rates. Gen3 H.264 is an efficient and higher quality alternative to legacy contribution codecs such as MPEG-2 and JPEG2000.

ATEME Gen3 H.264 bandwidth savings makes it possible to provide low bit rate contribution over IP networks while doubling the density of video streams over DVB-S2 links.

As ATEME real-time encoding products are FPGA based, existing as well as new Kyrion customers will be able to upgrade to the Gen3 core engine with no need to replace any hardware.

“Our third generation core engine represents a major breakthrough in H.264 video quality and bandwidth efficiency,” says Dominique Edelin, ATEME Chief Operating Officer. “By upgrading our Kyrion encoders, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing broadcasters and operators with future-proof solutions through continual innovation.”

About ATEME

ATEME is a world leading provider of MPEG-4 / H.264 and MPEG-2 bandwidth efficient compression technology. ATEME encoding solutions are deployed widely for broadcast contribution links, distribution, multi-screen live streaming, OTT and VOD applications.

ATEME SA, a world leader in H.264 video compression technology, today announced that its H.264 encoding solutions are now serving over one million French homes in HD.

Major French broadcasters including M6 and France2 Television have chosen to use ATEME’s H.264 encoders to provide HD video over low bitrates in order to reach millions of IPTV customers. Using ATEME’s bandwidth efficient H.264 video compression solutions, ISPs are able to reach more customers over further distances with HD IPTV services.

“IPTV has reached mass market status in France. The reason for this success is due to a strong ADSL subscriber base of over 15 million customers, the good value for money offered by triple play services, and healthy competition amongst ISPs,” says Nicolas Bry, IPTV Specialist (http://www.nbry.wordpress.com). “By the end of this year, we will have between five and six million IPTV subscribers. Of those, we expect a quarter to have access to HD channels such as France 2 and M6 that use ATEME’s H.264 encoders.”

“This is a milestone moment for ATEME as it shows the extent to which our H.264 solutions are addressing the potential growth opportunities of IPTV,” says Sylvain Riviere, Executive Vice President of Marketing at ATEME. “As more and more customers demand HD video for their new flat screen televisions, IPTV service providers will be looking at H.264 codecs that can encode video over IP with same picture quality as satellite and cable services.”
