ATEME was present in this year’s edition of CAPER (Argentinean Association of Manufacturers and Providers of Broadcasting Equipment), a regional event that since 1992 has been dedicated to professional equipment and services for the Converged Media Industry. The show attracts each year more than 5,000 professionals from the industry from Argentina and the rest of Latin America making it the most important commercial show in Buenos Aires.
The event is in many ways a reflection of the realities of this challenging market. The political climate, the new telecommunications law (expected in coming months) and the restrictions on importing high-tech equipment into Argentina were present during the show’s opening speeches and during most discussions and meetings with customers, partners and industry colleagues. Besides these issues, the tone of the show was for the most part optimistic yet, at the same time, cautious.
As for the trends and most discussed topics, OTT platforms as a disruptive element to the regional Pay TV providers“status quo” topped the talks and panels. The discussions and projects in development in the region vary greatly, ranging fromVHE in support of DTT distribution to OTT platforms in different stages of development which will take form over the coming months.
In addition to ATEME’s TITAN Live Platform (The booth had a large touch screen with the interactive presentation) our contribution encoders and decoders (CM/DR5000 were on display) and our ISDBT encoders were in several discussions with potential customers from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
Three members from ATEME’s Sales and Pre-sales Lat Am Team attended the show. ATEME’s exhibit was integrated in the booth that LADE, ATEME’s partner in Argentina, had.
