Tuesday, 7th of May 2013 – Gustavo Bevilacqua Dutra, ATEME Field Application Engineer for Brazil, was invited to speak about the new 4k video compression codec – HEVC (High Efficiency Video Encoding) at a Post-NAB conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This conference, organised for the 7th time by one of the main broadcast magazine in the country – Panorama Audiovisual, was received with a great success by professionals engaged in the television production and other manufacturers interested in this subject.

The key point of the discussion was centered around the 4K and its operation on both sides: the production (capitation, workflow) and transmition.
Gustavo explained how HEVC allows broadcasters to reduce the bandwidth needed to deliver Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV – 4K). His presentation covered new functionalities of the HEVC and its high efficiency compared to H.264 for high and low bitrate.
The audience was fascinated with the video quality in 900kbps@HEVC on an iPad screen, and many relevant questions concerning this new standard were asked.
