New Kyrion CM4101 encoder and DR8400 decoder pair revealed at NAB show

ATEME, a leader in AVC/H.264 video compression solutions, is launching the world’s first 10-bit 4:2:2 AVC/H.264 solution at NAB 2009, offering broadcasters and content owners native video quality transmission with increased capacity and lower transmission costs.

ATEME’s Hi422P 10-bit codec solution is being demonstrated on booth SU6326 at NAB2009 using ATEME’s KyrionCM4101 encoder and DR8400 decoder pair, and is part of ATEME’s full portfolio of products.

Sylvain Riviere, Executive Vice-President Marketing at ATEME commented: “By upgrading our Kyrion encoders and launching a receiver, we are reaffirming our commitment to providing broadcasters and operators with future-proof solutions through continual innovation. Whether used for fixed or mobile contribution, Kyrion SD and HD encoders offer broadcasters greater bandwidth management at uncompromised video quality. We believe that H.264 technology based encoder/decoder pairs are the next generation choice for contribution markets.”

Pierre Larbier, Chief Technology Officer at ATEME, will be presenting a white paper on 10-bit H.264 encoding at the NAB conference.

Pierre commented: “With our 10-bit 4:2:2 solution, HD content can be compressed to just 30Mbps – compared to 50-60Mbps with current MPEG-2 solutions – offering 2 HD streams over DVB-S2 link rather than just one, and with improved quality. Ironically 10-bit 4:2:2 solution when applied to H.264 offers greater bandwidth efficiency than 8 bits.

It is also a ’one technology fits all’ situation as it offers native source quality throughout the multi-generation process chain, offering true HD and digital cinema quality even when bandwidth is not constrained.”

To find out more, Pierre Larbier will be presenting the white paper on this subject at the NAB Conference on Wednesday 22nd April at 10am in the Las Vegas Convention Center: S226/227.

ATEME is a world leading provider of MPEG-4 / H.264 and MPEG-2 bandwidth efficient compression technology. ATEME encoding solutions are deployed widely for broadcast contribution links, distribution, multi-screen live streaming, OTT and VOD applications.
