High fidelity video compression for broadcast

MADRID, MIAMI, SINGAPORE, SEPTEMBER 29, 2015 –ATEME announced today that Telson, belonging to Tres60 Grupo, a European leader in media capture, management and distribution services, has deployed the TITAN stream processing solution to power its OTT multi-screen service for service providers in Spain.

Their play-out customers include: Turner, Disney Channel, NBC Universal and Viacom. TITAN is a high video quality, high density software compression solution, designed for Cable, DTH, and OTT. TITAN is a true virtualized software based solution, running on any OS: Linux, Windows and VM. TITAN delivers the highest video quality at minimum bitrates addressing main screens and multiscreen applications, from mobile resolutions up to UHDp60. Creates World’s Only Complete Solution for Ultra HD Blu‐ray Authoring

The combination creates the world’s only complete solution for Ultra HD Blu‐ray title creation.

Scenarist UHD has been developed in conjunction with feedback from its industry focus group (UHDG) partners who have been using the system since March of this year. ATEME’s TITAN encoder has become the standard in cable head‐end encoding for the 4K broadcast industry. ATEME joined the UHDG in June and has been providing early UHD encodes in High Dynamic Range (HDR) for the Ultra HD Blu‐ray launch expected this fall.

The ManyCoreLabs project is intended to address the “manycore” platform market for embedded systems. ManyCoreLabs is expected to provide high performance generic embedded computing platforms with a reduced cost and design time compared with currently available solutions.

 

The MPPA ™ technology, developed by the company Kalray, leader of the project, is one of the leading execution platforms “manycore” Embedded globally.

Based on the 28 nm CMOS silicon technology, MPPA ™ 256 is a processor with VLIW cores optimized calculation, and to deploy a power calculating GOPS 500 or 200 GFLOPS for a typical power consumption of 5 to 10W.

Media4Dplayer is a collaborative project supported by Cap Digital, the French business cluster for digital content and services, funded by the region of Île-de-France and the French Public Investment Bank. The project is aligned with the Cap Digital strategy regarding content accessibility, digital content policy and the silver economy.

 

The project, started in January 2015 for a duration of 18 moths, addresses the issues of media accessibility for all citizens in a connected environment by developing an open-source, multi-flow, and multi-accessible media player, designed for everyone, in particular for seniors, disabled, vulnerable populations, and those who need to improve their fluency in French (oral/written).

The final media4Dplayer application is to be developed in HTML5 and simultaneously combines sound, visual, and interactive elements into an intuitive user interface. Consequently, this multimedia content player will be able to read and synchronize several files simultaneously, and then provide personalized services. The two key challenges of the media4Dplayer project include design, demonstration and validation of innovative navigation paths by combining universal ergonomics together with an intelligent rethinking of the interface and present synchronously multiple content streams coming from different servers, to enrich the accessibility services of a given TV program.

The media4Dplayer consortium includes 7 project partners: two big companies, two SMEs, two academic research institutes, and one agglomeration of cities; all are supported by two SMEs as subcontractors.

Define and validate the television of the future is the goal of 4EVER-2. A collaborative project funded by the French government which aims to improve the video quality of experience thanks to Ultra High Definition TV (UHD-TV) and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard.

The 4EVER-2 project gathers nine industrial and academic partners, recognized in international standardization bodies, each of them with complementary skills throughout the distribution chain.
They are willing to develop technologies that will enable the distribution of audiovisual content improving the video quality of experience at a complete live production chain, distribution and reception of UHD-TV format Phase 2 content. It will contribute to define, via international standardization committees, a UHD-TV format Phase 2 « High Fidelity » adapted to the specificities of digital television services and their evolution.
4EVER-2 aims at contributing to the standardization bodies (MPEG, ITU, DVB) and at disseminating results to tradeshows (NAB and IBC).
The HEVC technology is central to ATEME strategy. Its objective, by joining the 4EVER and 4EVER-2 projects, is to integrate HEVC standard support in all of its ”High fidelity” encoding solutions: contribution, live and file distribution.

The IBC launch of a joint solution enables production and post-production companies to secure HDR content

NexGuard, a Civolution Company and the leading provider of forensic watermarking technology and solutions and ATEME, a global leader in HEVC, H264, MPEG2 video compression solutions, will launch a joint solution for the forensic watermarking of pre-release High Dynamic Range (HDR) video content at IBC. The forward-thinking solution is integrated with ATEME’s TITAN Software Transcoder, which will be demonstrated on the ATEME stand 1.D71.

“Leaks of pre-release content can prove disastrous for studios and post-production houses as they significantly decrease the value of high quality content,”

said Jean-Philippe Plantevin, SVP Products and Solutions, NexGuard.

“Collaborating with a world leader such as ATEME to ensure that HDR content is easily traceable is a tremendous step for us, and we’re proud to see our products helping to keep high value content assets secure while they are in production.”

The solution is based on NexGuard Software Development Kit (SDK), integrated with ATEME TITAN Software Transcoders, to enable customers to identify leaks prior to delivering content to the home over UHD and HDR-ready TVs. The combination complies with the ITU-R Recommendation BT.2020 specifying Ultra High Definition (UHD) and HDR encoding, and will deliver lifelike picture quality to provide consumers with stunning video content. The ATEME-NexGuard solution utilizes UHD 12 or 16-bit uncompressed source content to prepare HDR versions of content for Blu-Ray and electronic distribution. The images are watermarked and encoded to 10-bit Perceptual Quantizer (PQ) HDR with 45 Mbit/sec High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), then rendered on an HDR capable UHD TV.
